The Northern Neck Land Conservancy was presented on October 21, 2011 with the "Scenic Land Preservation Award 2011" from the organization Scenic Virginia for "its meritorious efforts to safeguard the beauty and rural heritage of the beloved Northern Neck by preserving its lands, waters, economies and culture for future generations". The ceremony was held in the State Capitol Building in Richmond. The event was hosted by the Board of Scenic Virginia, Speaker of the House, Bill Howell and the Scenic Virginia President Cecelia Howell. Governor Bob McDonnell spoke at the event, as did Delegate Albert Pollard. Receiving the award for NNLC was Mary Louisa Pollard, founder and former President of the Northern Neck Land Conservancy. Also in attendance were past and present Board members Page Henley, The Honorable W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr., George Freeman, Jr., current President Carol T. Hughes, Jen Kostyniuk, Executive Director Jamie Tucker, and Easement Specialist Joseph Thompson.
Scenic Virginia is the only statewide conservation organization dedicated solely to the preservation, protection, and enhancement of the scenic beauty of the Commonwealth, with a particular focus on the preservation of significant view sheds. Scenic Virginia promotes and sponsors programs that enhance landscapes, promote tourism and economic development, encourage natural beauty in the environment, preserve historical and cultural resources, and improve community appearance.
