Northern Neck Land Conservancy
804 462 0979-Elizabeth Friel, Executive Director

The A. Mason Brent Family was named the Northern Neck Land Conservancy’s “Conservation Champion” at the organization’s recent Boots and Barbecue gathering. In front of a sell-out crowd, Brent shared his special connection his family has to its conserved land.

Brent, the retired president of Columbia Propane Corp. and Columbia Propane LP and chairman of Atlantic Energy Inc. has been a longtime supporter of the land conservancy’s efforts to preserve farmland in the Northern Neck.

Brent lives in Heathsville where he restored the historic Roanoke home and grows specialty corn and grain on its surrounding acreage.

The past treasurer of the Northern Neck Land Conservancy, Brent has also been active in other local organizations including the Northumberland Family YMCA, Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett Tavern Foundation and the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum.

The land conservancy’s volunteer board has helped preserve 15,000 acres in the Northern Neck. It recently agreed to begin work in Essex County at the request of landowners there.

The conservancy writes easements in cooperation with landowners who wish to permanently protect their property from development so it will remain farmland forever.
