We are pleased to announce that Northern Neck Land Conservancy is hiring a part-time Community Engagement Officer to join our enthusiastic team of land stewards and help engage and inspire our regional conservation community.  The position description is below.

Job Summary

Northern Neck Land Conservancy is seeking a community engagement professional who will help foster relationships in the community while managing and executing the organization’s external communications. The Community Engagement Officer will help create and review communications strategies for diverse audiences that encourage and inspire new conservation easements. The position includes writing, email, social media, and content calendar management.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Communicate with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to foster positive relationships and promote community engagement
  • Create content for a variety of media.
  • Write and edit copy (eg. blogs and resource articles) that communicates Northern Neck Land Conservancy’s identified core topics, such as:
    • Conserving Open Space and Protecting Watersheds
    • Preserving regional heritage and rural businesses
    • Encouraging Responsible Stewardship of Biodiversity
    • Building a regional conservation community
  • Pursue external opportunities to market conservation easements (e.g., by writing op-eds, or seeking press opportunities)
  • Write, build, and schedule bi-monthly external newsletters, and other email campaigns as needed using Mailchimp.
  • Help manage a detailed communications calendar/editorial calendar and execute day-to-day implementation.
  • Help manage external communications for Northern Neck Land Conservancy’s audiences in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Periodically collect feedback from intended audiences when developing materials.
  • Track and record audience engagement with communications assets to understand effectiveness of efforts.
  • Make needed updates/changes to Northern Neck Land Conservancy website.
  • Investigate new ways to reach our target audiences.
  • Actively scan for and share (via all digital platforms) relevant external resources for our audience that align with Northern Neck Land Conservancy and our messaging (i.e., “social listening”.)
Qualifications
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of increasing responsibility in communications work (i.e., strategic planning, writing, and graphic design)
  • Familiarity with WordPress, or ability to learn.
  • Experience publishing for organizations on social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Threads
  • Ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in volunteer management or coordination is a plus.
Job Status: Part-time
Location: Hybrid remote, in office and in the field.
Compensation: $24 to $27/hour, up to 20 hours/week, depending on experience
